Time Machine Series: Jonathan Youmans' Sleepermix 1999

Download Download Now · Recommend | Fri, 18 Apr 2008 05:28

This is a progressive groove mix performed by Jonathan Youmans of Houston, TX. It was a mix tape that he gave me in 1999. It's got some really smooth mixes and choice track selection. I have a feeling this one will get some serious downloads this week as it contains a lot of the late 90's proggy classics that were popular around that time. If you enjoyed the mix of this podcast: 1. Let me know, you can find me on Myspace at: www.myspace.com/johnosorio 2. Let the world know by leaving your comments on the iTunes music store site!

This is the first show that I have managed to install chapters in. It's coded in ACC/MP4 format or M4a for iTunes. These type of files allow podcast producers the ability to construct chapters or track marks that enable listeners the opportunity to view album art and links about the artist for each track in the mix. This is a great feature as it allows you to skip through the mix which is really cool. If you can't play (enhanced) podcasts... no worries there's an mp3 format you can download as well. This mix is now 10 years old, it was first recorded on a mix-tape and was a big hit back then....

I wrote a whole commentary on this episode. I'm pissed now because it didn't even upload and I have to write it again... I guess a welcome back to me is in order. I've been away for quite a number of months now, and have had my hand in fatherhood with the birth of my daughter, and so the podcast project was placed on the back burner for a while. I never forgot about it though and was thinking of how to bring forth the next show. A while back I had thought of re-mastering some old mix tapes of mine from the mid 1990's, and I finally have come around to doing it. These series appropriately...

This month's FREE DOWNLOAD on the Able-Technolgy podcast is yet another remix competition entry, "Give Me Love" by Fresh 27 Although I didn't win, I did have a great time manipulating the beats for this track. Ableton Live 6 has really allowed me to experiment with all sorts of methods to produce. I discover something new each and every time I sit down to arrange. It's awesome! As each track I produce is finished, I realize that they are progressing towards a much more polished feel, flow, and vibe. I hope you agree when you listen or play this track in your set. It certainly fits in...

This is the second of two FREE DOWNLOAD's that I have posted on the Able-Technolgy show. The first one was the LASERBEAM track, and now this month's MUCKYSTAR. This remix was produced and arranged by Jessica Partin and myself... The track was for an online remix contest she and I entered in May... I have to be honest, I really wasn't in the mood to submit a track for review in a contest. It's tough competiting with other artist's creativity. I mean, we all have some sort of spark or life given to us by the energy upstairs, and pitting others against themselves really kinda bums me out because...

It's been quite a while since I've posted a set and I wanted to let everyone know that it wasn't because I was away from the studio. Actually, I have been working, but this time instead of making or mixing a set together, I decided to work on several productions. This is the first of two FREE DOWNLOAD's that I will post on the Able-Technolgy Podcast for the month's of May and June. I do want to set things straight with this podcast.... You can use it in your DJ sets, download it onto your i-pod, or just bang it in your car. Do whatever you want with it.. even remix it if you want. This...

Hmmmmm I just got word from my friend SkipJack Stu that he's finished his mix... Diggin as that will be the next episode for Able-Technology. He and I are really working the technology and the internet by exchanging our music online... editing and mixing our individual sets into one... that next episode is going to be interesting to produce and I can't wait to get it out on the podcast. In the meantime, I've uploaded another straight turntable mix Iberian-Progression as the name states progression is the element here. Lots of tribal influences, club influences and steady melding on the Technics....

Here we are two weeks into the release of (Digital Domain) and I haven't yet posted another "Live" mix . This episode however is an old raw mix that I have dusted off from my compilation collection. It was put together in the year 2000 and represents a deeper groove of evolution. It was a milestone mix because it was the first set that I burned onto CD for distribution. It was also the first time I collaborated with Josiah Smith, my sound engineer and good friend. We had fun working in Pro-Tools to beef up the sound to give it that signature HOUSE roundness. Before this release, all my mixes...

As I forge ahead learning Live's capabilities I continue to encounter ways of digitally mixing and digitally editing tracks to suit the flow of the mix. In this recent set, I've done a number of things I haven't done in earlier "Live" mixes, that is edit down tracks by removing the unwanted portions of a song for the sake of set flow. I then use loops cut from within the edited tracks to continue the energy flow down the path I envisioned. This mix contains a lot of this, and in one case I even take three remixes of the same song to combine them together and make one solid track... Lots of...

Bora Bora is yet another straight turntable mix that I have in my collection. It was Inspired by the now famous Bora Bora beach parties on the beautiful island of Ibiza. This episode contains some great Iberican tracks, along with some outstanding funky house reminiscent of Ibiza's 2004 season. I was fortunate enough to visit Ibiza in September of 2004, and I had a blast not only at Bora Bora beach, but also at KM5, Space (on Sunday where I got to hear Steve Lawler drop a wicked wicked set), DC-10 for Circo Loco, and finally I experienced El Divino... need I say more... I was completely exhausted...

Getting creative is what Ableton is about... In this mix, I took President Bush speech blunders and added it into the intro (just to prove my point he has no business leading the United States) It goes alongside the theme of the podcast.... as it is more or less a protest to the Bush administration and their actions over the years. It's about the politics of war, and how we can all stop it by just following our hearts and making our voices heard over all the noise. I managed to really melt tracks together using various production methods I've learned while getting into the Ableton platform......

This mix was done the old fashioned way... It's a straight turntable mix...No Ableton, No Serato, No Mp3's, No Wav files, nada... it's clean, it's simple and to the point. I wanted to post this piece to demonstrate some performance skills and pay homage to the old turntable media. I miss the roundness of vinyl, I miss the warmth of its sound, I miss the fidelity it produces, but honestly, I don't miss the price tag of the vinyl format. I remember dropping hundreds of dollars monthly just to put together a decent set... Thankfully those days have gone by the wayside, and putting together smart...

Greetings Well it took almost 5 weeks to produce this mix, but I think you'll agree after listening, that this one may have been well worth the wait. As I continue to move progressively forward with the Ableton Live interface, I continue to discover new ways to be creative within the mix. This time around I leaned more towards using tracks from the Electronic Breakbeat spectrum of dance music. There are 18 tracks intermingled for this 60 minute mix and production which include favorites like Violet's "Burn the Elastic", of which I added effects plus some fresh vocal samples. I also managed...

This episode/mix was arranged exclusively for a recent show I did in Eugene, Oregon USA. Big up's to the Gaia-Tribe who continue to preserve why we do this thing called electronic music. This is just the beginning of many more to come... Over the past 10 years I have seen dance music and its technology evolve from analog performances into the digital age. With Serato DJ's preserving the vinyl format, it goes without question that we will continue to utilize the turntable and digital modules to present our craft for another 10 years and beyond. The age of the digital performer is upon us though,...
